Jurgen Klopp: 52 million pounds sterling by Liverpool almost erased Alisson transfer as the original plan of Loris Karius

Jurgen Klopp revealed how close Liverpool was not Sign Alisson Becker.

The Brazilian arrived on the Merseyside in the summer of 2018 of the Italian club as Roma for transfer fees of 65 million pounds sterling. He has since established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world while playing a huge role in the success of the Reds.

The need for Liverpool for an upgrade between the sticks has become apparent in the final defeat of the Champions League against Real Madrid this season while Loris Karius made two expensive errors that finally pointed out the end of his career with the club.

However, the Reds received only the green light to sign Alisson after an agreement for the Lyon attacker midfielder Nabil Fekir collapsed.

To date, we still do not know why Liverpool withdrew from a reported agreement of 52 million pounds sterling for Fekir, but Klopp revealed that the finances involved mean that the club could not afford it.

Speaking as part of the club docuseries ‘Alisson: My Story’. Klopp said: “We all know the story around the Champions League final. We had to estimate, to judge how [Karius] would treat, how the public would treat this.

“We all hoped that it could become stronger after that, maybe it can be a turning point in a good direction.

“But all of a sudden, we then heard that Ali was on the market.

“It was my absolute dream.

“The interesting part is that we were about to sign Fekir. And if we sign Fekir, we don’t have the money for Ali.

“It was obviously a fairly important decision for the future of the LFC!”

The decision worked in favor of Liverpool while Alisson was an integral part of the Club of two Premier League titles and the Champions League during its seven full seasons.

As for Fekir, he was part of the French team who won the 2018 World Cup. He moved to Real Betis the following summer, spending five complete seasons with the Laliga team before joining the Pro League Al Jazira Club water outfit last August.
