JJ Spaun praised his own “end of fairy tale” after breaking US Open Dream by Robert Macintyre.
The brilliant arrival of Spaun to Brutal Oakmont stole Macintyre of the chance to become the first big champion of Scotland since 1999 after having broken out after an excellent two under 68 under normal.

This made him the leader of the clubhouse in one and the Scot had seemed ready for at least a eliminatory against Spaun, who had two holes to play.
But the American first sent a superb 309 yards walk on the green 17th grade per four and two strokes for a birdie before pouring a 64 -foot mammoth putt on the 18th green to seal the glory.
Macintyre looked open in the scorer’s office and could only have his opponent applauded.
“It’s really like a stories book, an end of fairy tale, a kind of response from the outsiders, not to abandon, never to stop,” he said.
“With the rain and everything, then putt, you could not write a better story. I’m so lucky to be at the reception of this.

“Just to finish as it is just a dream. You look at other people doing it. You see the tiger chip, you see Nick Taylor’s putt, you see crazy moments.
“To have my own moment like that during this championship, I will never forget this moment for the rest of my life.”

Spaun can consider the storm around 4 p.m. local time (9 p.m., BST) as a divine intervention.
Before the heavens open in Oakmont and forced a 96 -minute delay, the head of the first round was five for his round after eight holes and four in advance.
But while the leaders Sam Burns and Adam Scott trampled in the soaking conditions after the recovery, Spaun found his best match and his birdies in the 12th, 14th, 17th and 18th took him to glory.

“I felt like I was lucky, a very good chance of winning the United States open at the start of the day,” he said.
“It just happened very quickly. But this break was actually the key for me to win this tournament.
“The tee pulled over nine, like my first shot. It was the hole on which we stopped. I just rugged, like a pretty little cup on the left side.
“And I said to myself:” Very well, we are back “. I didn’t hit too much bad shots after that. “
The chief overnight Burns saw his hopes getting carried away after restarting.
He held a two -stroke advance when the rain came but could not face the details of detachment, producing two Bogeys to finish equally in the seventh in four.

The American Ryder Cup player said he should have received relief due to stagnant water on the 15th fairway.
“This fairway is from left to right,” he said. “It is sort of the lower part of the fairway there.
“When I got there, you could clearly see the water rising. I took training swings and it’s just water every time.
“Called an official rules, they did not agree. I saw her again. I thought maybe I should get a second opinion. The rules official did not agree either.
“In the end, it is not mine, it is the official rules. This is the kind of that. “
