Caines leads the Burnden path on the Ironman course test

It was not a surprise that there was a heavy presence Burnden Road Runners at Bolton’s Ultimate Challenge last weekend – both the Big Ironman 70.3 and it’s Baby Cousin, The Night Run 5K.

The two events are accompanied by a brilliant atmosphere of Bolton and represent the best of the race and the triathlon.

The runners of the road under their title affiliated in 2024 of “Burnden Tri” proved in their masses to support the nine athletes in competition in the Bolton 70.3 Ironman.

The event was reduced to mid-distance in 2024, which encouraged more people to participate and create an inclusive but difficult race covering Leigh, Wigan and Bolton.

The start at 6:15 am at Pennington Flash begins to swim in free water of 1.2 m, followed by 56 miles of bicycle which brings the competitors to Queens Park in Bolton for a difficult undulating half-marathon race.

The first line in the male category was Mike Caine de Burnden 5h 33 minutes 7 seconds (36: 34/2: 55: 19/1: 48: 27), 18th in its age category and 356th in total. He razed 24 minutes of his time in 2024 and made a personal record.

The first and the only competitor of the club was the daughter of Mike, Francesca Caine, in 6:29:57 (42: 49/3: 32: 25/2: 01: 41). She also arrived 18th in her age category and 813rd in total, hitting 30 minutes from her PB.

The Slightly Kinder of Ironman’s challenge was underway on Friday before the big event with nearly 1,000 runners waiting to go on waves on Le Mans Crescent.

Two offers – a 5 km and a 10 km – take the runners around and off the city center of Bolton and in Queens park for a sweet hike before moving and towards the powerful red carpet for a real Ironman finish.

In the 10 km, the first house was Gary Avis in 40:15, followed by Ryan Moore, in 42:31, and Steven Walton, in 43:33.

The first three ladies were Linda Doherty, in 51:22, Sandra Caine (59:01) and Natasha Clarke (59:34).

He was back to the Burnden classics this week when a contingent took athletics events in Manchester.

Wednesday, the 16th veteran athletics meeting of Joe Moran Memorial organized by Manchester Harriers at Sportcity Stadium.

Paul Christie, former president and runner of Sprint Avid, is an enthusiastic ambassador for this event and won two of the nine medals in total. He claimed gold in the 400m with his time of 1: 19.7 and gold in 800m with 2: 58.9.

Steve Nolan took two gold medals in 800m with 2: 44.9 and 1500m with 6: 03.5.

Mumtaz Patel won two bronze medals for the 400m (1:26) and the 800m (3:02). In events on the ground, it was the javelin first and Patel took a new bronze medal with its 6.26 m throw. Tom Stratton won two medals at home – one in 1500m with 5: 18.6 and a javelin throw of 25.31 m.

Burnden won several winners of the annual Leo Pollard Memorial Fell, organized by Lostock AC and part of the Horwich race festival.

Appointed in honor of the late president of Lostock, Leo Pollard – an accomplished runner and climber – the race is a difficult and difficult adventure in the hills.

From the Rivington Upper Grange, the runners faced a steep climb to the pike, then circulated both Rivington and Smithills Moor – taking Brown Hill and Croooked Edge Hill to reach the two guy monument. By surrounding again around the plantation of Holden and the Smithills shooting hut, it is another climb almost to the mast before bringing back through Rivington Moor in an amazing approach to the pike. The runners then return to their steps to finish the seven -mile race at the starting point.

Anne Ferguson was the first lady of Burnden and the first FV65 in 57:24 and Lyndsay Darbyire brought the third FV55 and the second Burnden Lady in 1:00:48. Jane Forrest won the first FV60, in 1:00:53, and Marie Parkinson took the second FV60, in 1:05:10.

Paul Cox was released for another half-marathon, choosing one of the channel events “It’s Grim up North”.

A variety of distances are offered during the Igun races and the half-marathon distance from Cox took it along the tranquility Leeds to Liverpool Canal in Kirkstall and Vice-Vice-Versa. He crossed the line in 1:57:00.

Diane and Amy Smith were in Wales this week to compete at Cardiff Hyrox doubles.

Described as “The World Series of Fitness Racing”, this brutal training event is super popular throughout the United Kingdom.

With supporters providing an electrifying atmosphere throughout, Hyrox’s sport incorporates cardio and strength, the 1 km race between eight activities – Skierg, sleigh sled, sled traction, wide jumps of burpee, rowing, transportation of farmers, sandbag and wall balls.

The mother-daughter duo broke this terrifying event in 1:58:29.

There were only two Burndens at the Astley Park Trail this week while the packaged racing calendar presented other commitments.

Located around the picturesque field of Astley Hall, in Chorley, the finishers of this week were Gayle Gerrard, in 30:53, and Chris Greenall, in 34:14.

Edgworth Reservoir 10K welcomed the only Burnden, Justin Bones, with his wet and muddy race. The picturesque, but difficult road is a shot tour around two of the most beautiful tanks in the campaign – Wayoh and Entwistle.
